Our approach
Lingoshelf is designed as a private vocabulary collection. We do not sell personal data, use advertising SDKs, or track you across apps or websites.
Data you create
Vocabulary entries, translations, examples, notes, language preferences, and app appearance preferences are stored on your device. If iCloud sync is available and enabled for the app, this content is stored in your private iCloud account through Apple CloudKit so it can appear on your own devices.
Translation requests
When you translate, Lingoshelf sends the text, source and target languages, and requested translation options to the Lingoshelf translation service. The service does not persist or log vocabulary content or provider API keys. If you choose your own compatible provider key, it is sent only for that request to obtain a translation.
Your API key
If you add your own API key, Lingoshelf stores it in the device Keychain and in an encrypted field in your private CloudKit database to synchronize it between your own devices. The Lingoshelf service does not store or log this key.
Purchases
Subscriptions, one-time purchases, restore purchases, and redemption codes are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Lingoshelf receives only the entitlement status needed to enable the selected plan.
Sharing
Data is shared only with Apple services needed for iCloud and StoreKit, and with the AI provider needed to generate a requested translation. We do not sell personal data or share it for advertising.
Your choices
You can edit or delete vocabulary in the app, remove your API key in Settings, cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID settings, and remove app and associated iCloud data through Apple account settings.
